Agua Valle

South Pacific Coast, Costa Rica
Site planning, Branding & Identity, Architecture, Team Building

For this project we were tasked to help a family develop an ___ acre site in Costa Rica into a regenerative farming community. Placemaking, infrastructure, agricultural planning,  site planning, community structure, lifestyle, branding and identity, and developing an architectural language were all components of our scope.

The topography of Agua Valle is defined by an elevation change of over 200m, with half a dozen quebradas (small streams) cascading down throughout the site, tracing a contour of rolling hills and valleys of water. The various structures will be built using a combination of locally sourced materials like river rocks from the quebradas on the property, bamboo, terracotta from the clay deposits in the earth and local hardwood trees. A pragmatic approach will provide balance by utilizing typical materials and building practices used in the region such as metal roofing and light gauge steel framing.

Agua Valle is a place where families and friends come to feel at home in the natural world, to experience life closer to the Earth and all its elemental wonders. Our mission is to create a deeper connection to the land, the heavens, and each other.

Clouds roll low, over our verdant valley,
carried by a gentle breeze, leaving cool
droplets on the skin, on the tropical leaves
of our turmeric, ginger, and bananas, cooling
our bodies, cooling this place we call home.
