Caloosa Pavilion Addition
Crooked Lake, Florida
Studio Shell’s first project was completed on the same lot in 2014. A humble pavilion in a south-facing 100’ by 380’ lot rapidly descending into Crooked Lake, FL. The first pavilion was built right at the boundary of the 100 year floodline, leaving a large part of the lot vacant.
Now, Studio Shell seeks to create a 6,000 sq.ft. primary structure that reflects both the site’s conditions and the existing pavilion. The design takes advantage of the intense elevation change to create an impression of outward projection, while blurring the distance between it and the lake, making the floor and lower landscape disappear to evoke a sense of weightlessness and floating over the water.
